The why, what & how of the European Open Science Cloud

In a video for the Open Science MOOC Jean-Claude Burgelman, who was until recently the Head of Unit Open Data Policies and Science Cloud at the European Commission’s Directorate-General Research and Innovation, gives an introduction to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), a vision the GO FAIR office strongly supports as part of the global Internet of FAIR Data and Services, and helps realise through its Implementation Networks.

Jean-Claude Burgelman sheds some light on the idea behind the EOSC, and explains why it is being developed, how it is going to be realized and what the future steps are:

The idea was (…) a decentralized approach (…) federating the structures that already contribute to the Open Science Cloud (…) and creating the layer of access and of governance on top of it so that all these (…) federated entities behave in a way that makes FAIR data – Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable – a reality.
